Deforestation has many impacts on the environment. One of the most negative impacts is that species have lost and continue to lose their habitats due to deforestation. Seventy percent of the world's land animals and plants live in forests. The continued cutting down of our forests will destroy their food and their homes. Without these main essentials, these animals cannot survive. Trees also play a very impoartant role in ecosystems and add to the biodiversity of nature. The constant cutting of trees for modern use is harmful to the environment and the balance of nature.
Another main impact of deforestation is its affect on the Earth's water cycle. Trees are responsible for soaking up water from the soil and releasing moisture back into the atmosphere. If trees are cut down, there is no canopy of tree branches and leaves to block the sun's rays. In addition, there are no roots to soak up and retain this moisture. As a result, the sun dries up the soil and this affects the growth of other vegetation and animals. Deforestation therefore disturbs the water cycle and makes the environment drier.
